Configuring Connect for Ethernet & Wi-Fi
Firewalls and Network Restrictions
Where configuring Connect for Ethernet or Wi-Fi it is advised that you notify the IT department to ensure network permissions and access requirements are met in a timely manner.
Many networks have firewalls and other restrictions that may prevent the Connect communicating with Nimbus. We require the following:
- Open Outbound TCP/IP port 5684, from the Connect to nimbus.lancontrolsystems.com
- No network access control lists being applied to the network data port being used by Connect.
Ethernet
Ethernet can be configured either as part of the Nimbus Digital Apps installation process, or by pairing to the relevant Connect from the App home page.
Once paired, the Ethernet group can be selected to configure either for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or a static IP.
Where using a static IP, obtain the below details from the local IT department and configure the Connect accordingly.
- IP address
- Subnet mask
- Gateway IP
- DNS 1
- DNS 2 (Optional)
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi can be configured either as part of the Nimbus Digital Apps installation process, or by pairing to the relevant Connect from the App home page.
Once paired, the Wi-Fi group can be selected to configure Wi-Fi.
Connect supports 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5Ghz) networks using WPA and WPA2 (personal) security methods requiring a password (AKA Pre-Shared Key).
Unsupported Wi-Fi includes:
- Wi-Fi using the WEP encryption protocol.
- Open Wi-Fi with no password.
- Hidden SSIDs.
- Wi-Fi that uses username and password credentials for authentication.
- Wi-Fi that uses a captive portal or browser.
