Servicing equipment with Nimbus Engineer
Article contents
Overview
Nimbus Engineer App for Android and iOS records servicing for:
- Active equipment (addressable fire alarm systems) when connected to a Nimbus device (Connect/Fixed Gateway or nimbusGo*).
- Passive equipment and assets—such as conventional fire alarm systems (with nimbusGo* support), emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, and fire hydrants—when you have a Nimbus Asset Management subscription.
*First time using nimbusGo? Connect it to Nimbus Engineer App via the in-app devices menu. Do not pair nimbusGo using your phone’s Bluetooth settings—if already done, “forget” the device and reconnect through the app.
Starting your service visit
Find your equipment
Using the sites card on the app home page, find the relevant site/equipment and select "Service".
If your site/equipment has an address configured in the Web Portal, Engineer App will match it to your location.
Select your visit
Once selected, you will see equipment and last service details. From here you "Select visit" and, if configured, select the relevant visit.
If no service visits are configured against the equipment, only Unscheduled will show.

Connect to the panel
If using nimbusGo for servicing, you will see a screen detailing the panel connection status.
Physically connect your nimbusGo and configure the panel as required, confirming a good panel connection before proceeding.
Some protocols can take up to 30 seconds to establish a connection. Other protocols may require you to trigger a panel event to establish comms.

Testing devices
After starting a service visit, you’ll see a list of devices for testing.
Active equipment
Devices that report activation to the panel—like detectors or call points—automatically update as Auto Passed. Devices requiring manual testing (such as sounders) can be marked as Passed, Failed, Unable to Test, or Passed with Advisory. Add failure reasons, comments, and photos as needed.
Passive equipment
To Pass, select the asset and complete the required tasks. You can also mark assets as Passed with Advisory, Failed, or Unable to Test.
Devices or assets missing? You may need to update the ToC in Nimbus by uploading a panel configuration file or adding assets via Nimbus Engineer App.

Ending your service visit
When testing is completed, tap Menu from the device list and select End service.
Ensure Share service report is checked to generate a service summary email for users with service report notifications, after the service has been ended.
If there are pending uploads from either the nimbusGo device or Engineer App you will be not be allowed to end the visit to ensure no data loss.
